I'm building one. Waiting for parts... I assume we are all running the Aquacraft outrunner for the minimono? I have made a quick prototype to test the shape. If it runs well I'll make a mold for them.

After the meeting I was unsure where this would be going as it seemed several guys were still on the fence. I'm in if we go forward with it as discussed. This would be mostly for exhibition and perhaps some kids type classes and a few new members could come out of it. The main idea is to keep it low cost and very spec so the performance is very equal.

so does that mean that we are going to do racing, like on sundays, or are we just going to meet and everybody drive around in circles (with corner bouys)?

It will be actual racing with clock, heats ect. Just not overly serious and mostly for fun and exhibition.

The reason why I posted this thread was because of the lack of commitment.

I am in for this class but I would like to know FOR SURE.

which boat were we talking about, again?

Also, is Mark making a boat? If so, what will his selling price be?

Once I know this, I can do a search and see if I can find a cheap price somewhere.

The boat we had originally planned to use was the Aquacraft Mini mono 2.4 The idea was to do some fun racing with all boats pretty much the same for exhibition purposes, very low cost and equality of prformance.

I'm not sure I'll be making a mold. I may if the hull runs well and I find the time to do it. The price would not be high (less than $50) but if you have to buy the remaining parts (especially considering the fact that most of us don't already have these small pieces - our boats are bigger) The price of the Aquacraft minimono is hard to beat. I have seen them regularly at as low as $119 online.

Then why don't we just set up a "group buy" within the club and order them all at once??

I would be for that. We may not be able to get a discount on the price of the boat, but, this would probably lower the "per boat" price of shipping. If boats are ordered from tower, it may also qualify for a larger discount (but tower may not be the cheapest place to buy them).

I did a little research. Here is what I have found:

TowerHobbies - $139.98 free shpping
non-member discount = Save $25 with $199 order
member discounts are usually more, but I am not a member, so I don't know what they are currently.

Tower also sells the recommended Great Planes LiPo 11.1V 1000mAh 25C battery (weight = 87g)for:
Qty 1 = $34.99
Qty 3 = $100.26 or $33.42 each
Qty 6 = $199.44 or $33.24 each
Qty 12 = 396.84 or $33.07 each

Other options for batteries are (I am not sure if batteries of only certain dimensions will fit in the boat):
FlightPower LiPo EONX 30 3S 11.1V 1200mAh 30C (weight = 114g) #35.99
Great Planes ElectriFly LiPo 3S 11.1V 1300mAh 25C (weight = 112g) $34.99

The free shipping offer does not apply to the batteries

Rcplanet.com - $124.95 + free shipping (special deal that is going on currently)

AmainHobbies.com - $129.99 + Free UPS ground shipping for 1 boat. Note: only have 1 in stock

gravesrc.com - $139.99 Note: have 3 in stock shipping for 3 boats is $15.45

Offshore electrics - $139.98 but out of stock

Do you have a LHS you could reach out to? You could mitigate the shipping costs and possibly get a quantity discount....

Just a thought,
Mike

Mike, yeah we have a LHS that we could try, but most of the time we can order stuff online and with the cost of shipping its possibly still cheaper than the LHS.

To the club: I have a co worker that wants to get into boats, He wants to get in to P-Limited Sport Hydro (LSH) BUT the Mini class for the River Walk fits his current budget, I just got off the phone with him and his words were "lets do it"!

Tim: thanks for checking on the prices!

come on guys lets make a decision! :hammer:

I have acquired 2 brushless micro hydro's at a really great price they are 16" long and RTR if anyone wants to do hydros at the Riverwalk.

And we are ready to order 3 Mini Mono's if anyone is wondering.
