Hey, I had a little fun at the model expo this weekend. While working the Hitec booth I would come across a few nitro boat racers that would mention Electrics were too slow for them. When I asked how fast there boats were they would tell me 60+ or so. I would reply, "that's why I run Electric boats, those Nitro ones just don't go fast enough for me! I like to run in the 80's!!!"
Sorry if it sounds like I'm tooting my horn, I've just heard electrics are slow for too many years and though I'd take a shot back.
Anyway, I thought a few on this board would get a kick out of it!
I should mention that most of the nitro racers were very cool and respectfull. It was just the ignornat ones that I had fun with!
See ya,
Dick

Those Nitro guys are high on the fumes!
They will get over it.
Good showing, Dick! The presentation looks good, also.
Is that the new Hitec salesman in front of your boats? :)

Colten would like to be the new Hitec Salesman! He spent a little time with me on Sunday at the booth answering the important questions. He worked with the kids while I talked to the daddies. It was a nice combo!
Nothing like a little Father/Son hobby!
See ya,
Dick

Thanks for your recommendations yesterday, I didn't mean to take up too much of your time.
So, will your record setting boat ever see the water again, or is it being sent off to the Smithsonian? ;)

Have a dig, tell them. I think they need a practical demonstration.

Went to a local (District 19, IB race #1) Nitro race to watch the "big boys" run, weekend before last. A few of the So-Cal boys were present, everyone was very polite and said my rigger was cute........................ Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!
Hold me back boys.................

It was great to meet you at the show. Take up too much of my time? I'd rather of just talked boats with you and your buddies all day. Did you pop the lid off the record boat upstairs? That thing still stinks from the fried controller! I meant to warn you so you wouldn't get the stink on you. It lasts forever!
I'd love to make the trip down some weekend and run with you and Garry Finnaly and the gang. maybe we can pick a good weekend that everyone will be around and I can drag a few other guys down with me.
I never did get to alk to the Mega guy at the show. Did he have any good suggestions?
Hey, are you going to make it up for Nats?
Thanks again for saying hi.
See ya,
Dick

Dick,
Good for you! There is nothing better then seeing the look on the nitro and Gas guys faces when one of those "toy" FE boats goes faster then them. When we were first getting into the SAW a couple years ago Greg and I would test at Legg with a radar gun. There were a few times when we had the fastest boats on the water. The other guys were just demoralized!
Colten looks too cute!
Hey I ran into Mark Grimm, Don Maher and a couple other guys at the IMS show a few weeks ago. I asked them if your boat looked that fast. They just said it was Amazing! They said that with a little tweaking you should be over 100 soon. If you can impress those guys that is saying something.
Hello Dick,
I'll get my chance this weekend to ruffle some nitro feathers. I'm going to a nitro club meeting to join up with them, they have a private lake close to me with buoys setup 24/7 AND a retrieval boat always on site. These guys go so far as to dye the water to keep it perfectly clean. (definitely worth the price of admission) Me and my toy boats are gonna have some fun with them. lol ;-)

Paul,
It's a lot more fun if you go in there saying "Well I just want to play with my electric toys."
Then when you clean their clocks, you get to smirk and they all hate you (in a good way).
If they clean yours, you at least don't have to eat crow for the main course with humble pie for dessert.

Dick -
I actually forgot to head back over and talk to the Mega rep and ask about the 40 amp rating on their speed controls. I'd like to get something set up for 1/16th scale, Mega motors seem like they're priced right.
I didn't pop the top off your boat, though if I knew I could have, I would have. I didn't want to get tackled by security in front of my wife and kid.
It would be great to hook up after I get a couple of my boats done, getting some input from racers would be helpful. I'm going to come up to the Nats whether I race or not, but I'd like to have a boat ready (and competetive) by then.
I've rec'vd a few e-mails from local guys that are interested in getting involved with FE racing as a result of my posts on this forum. We may actually have a decent crowd if you do decide to come down.

DOn't worry about missing the inside of the boats. I actually had the wrong motors in them. I sent the 8XL back to Rainier Hacker to look over and haven't got it back yet. I think I had an 8L in it.
Glad to hear you'll make it up for nats! If you don't have a boat ready by then I'll put something together here you can race. Not a squashed twinky!
I'm sure I could talk a few racers from up here into driving down and running with you guys when you're ready.
Did you see that funny Mega where the can of the motor spun with the shaft? Only the end plate was fixed. What's up with that?
See ya,
Dick

LRK style?
A few guys have converted Astro brushed motors to brushless by spinning the can an fixing the armature. MA had a photo of one in a recent issue too, Feb or Mar one.
For one thing is makes bulkhead mounting (preferable in planes) very simple.
The downside is that large rotating mass up front makes for interesting turns.

Sounds like your going to the badger pond. It is a nice facility.
