Richard, I doubt others would agree with ruining a nice gel coat but I have a similar boat which came with a blue gelcoat. To change the color to white I wet-sanded it down to rough it up. When I sanded it I uncovered lots of bubbles and imperfections the gel coat covers up. I used finger dabs of epoxy to fill the holes and resanded til smooth. Then a coat of Krylon grey primer revealed any remaining imperfections. More filling, sanding, etc. Finally I got the whole thing coated with gloss white Krylon, my decals and clear coats. I would definitely do it again. The only problem is on the sharp edges of the hull - I didn't rough them up enough with the sandpaper and the paint has chipped off a little. Again, some may recommend against this. In any case, good luck!

I have not shot any yet (on boats) but the "Duo Color Match" from the auto industry (wal-mart, car parts stores, etc) seems to be some very good stuff.
It has a much better spray head that lays paint on much nicer.
The nice thing is you can get 4 oz cans for strips or whatever and the larger can for hull colors and it comes in thousands of colors including clearcoats and really wild colors.
You see a car that you like the color you can find it in this type of paint...lots of metallics too.
I actually think I would use an auto paint for any glass boat. I think it is harder and more durable.
I am about to try it myself but I know it is fine for ABS or any plastic or glass.

I recently painted a glass boat. I did a little sanding to roughen it up then painted it with Dupli-color Mirage color shifting paint. It seems to be durable and is very cool looking. The top fades from maroon to gold and the bottom goes from dark blue to red. Both colors look black at very shallow angles. The stuff comes in a kit of 3 spray cans.

Nitro,
Could you post some pictures of that paint in the photo gallery? Their discription on their site makes it look really cool. Never seen a finished boat with it.

Sure ill post some pics but I need to wait untill a sunny day. In low light, light from while lightbulbs it doesn't look nearly as neat. The pics I have just dont do the paint justice.

I posted Dou color (not sure what I was thinking that day)...I meant to say Dupli-color. It is auto touch up paint...same stuff as mentioned above. I see it at Walmart and other auto parts stores. Harder finish than Krylon. Colors are vast.
