I Like Fast electric, But I also Build some other types of boats you would have to classify as Fast Scale, For Instance, I built a single step Hydro 1930"s design, about 18 inches long, and am running a graupner 600 direct drive w/632 prop, I run on 8 cells and it does OK, on 12 cells it flew literally , Now this isn't for racing, just something different, I have now built a 22 inch Barrleback runabout, made it really light, (almost totally 1/32 ply, ) I was planning on running something a little more aggressive in the motor department, but I want to limit it to 6 cells, I was planning on gearing down say to 1.5 to 1, and wanted to use a 3 blade prop (probably a 937/3,,,, ) any suggestions, this is also just a sport boat, but I kind of like having these boats that look like your basic scale boat flying around the pond,,,,,anybody else into this kind of strangeness cross between fe and scale,,,,,

You mentioned a 937/3. That seems like a bit much pitch for a mono. I would think something like a 437/3 or 440/3 would be better. Maybe not, but that's how it seems.

Do you mean you use a 600 Grapuner on 12 cells. If so can you tell me more about you'r 600, please ?

Gene, Thx for answering, The 937/3 from octura seems to have lack of pitch,,,,,, I think you are thinking of the v937,, I have one, and I am unsure of it's application, I pretty much had to keep trying stuff as there was no one around me who was into Fast Electric, and the guys who thought they were fast well...... I can beat most of them with my 'Fast Scale",,,,,, the 937/3 is very similar to the 955/3 which comes in r/l, this pushes my Chris craft fairly well , but I feel the need for speed, the club I belong too is into Scale, in a big way,,,, I am one of the few into F/E, I run a keywest/e-vee, I have just bought the plans for a yellow jacket rigger, and an O boy Omberto hydro,,,,, but I kinda like scale looking boats that fly (sport flying, not fe flying) I have a few astros, o5/ and an old ferrite 15, I use a lot of 700 graupners and some of FD 775's, but I was hoping for a suggestion for a good brush motor, that is better than stockers, but not as exotic as a full race motor,,,,, any ideas,,,,,cheers ed

Mathieu, Yes I have run a graupner 600 on 12 cells, it wasn't even a ball bearing motor, the thing is how long you can run it on 12 cells, at 18 bucks,,,, you can take a chance,,,,, if you run too long, it will melt down faster than a cheap cheese sandwich, but for 3 minutes or so, it's fine,,,,,, it's the 7.2v version, I ran it in this little boat, (these were smaller nmh cells) and the thing was flying, I run it all the time on 8 or 9 cells and no adverse effects,,,, but if your thinking about these motors for racin,,, hmmmm,,,, I don't think so,,,, but for fun running,,,,, they're great,,,, and cheap,,, and if they blow up,,, they blow up,,,,, you haven't ruined a really expensive motor,,,,,, I do have some good motors, and I am reading everything on this site trying to figure out how to properly use them,,,,, I really dig this site,,,, It shows me how far in the dark I really am,,,,

Anyway,
I don't think I'll use my 600 BB SP 8.4 V on 12 cells. But it was to see if you've done it...
Thanks

Mathieu, I probably wouldn't either, I am not familiar with that motor, the only 600 ball bearing I have seen was the hobby -lobby one < this sells here for about 30 usd, I would try 12 cells with that,,,, I mean I have run my 700 on 18 cells ( not for long) I would be interested in the specs of the 600bb sp,,,,, is it similar to the 500 (sells here for around 95 usd) if that's the case, I think it's a ton of money for what your getting,,,,,thx for the post though,,,,,

Yeah, I was thinking of the v937. Sorry about that. What do you consider an exoctic motor? A Plett? Hacker? You alread seem to run the 700s quite a bit so between them and a Plett would be a mega or astro. 12 cells would be the mega midi. 18 plus cells would probably be in the Mega S series. I have also run my 700BB on 18 cells. It's the 9.6v though. I've run it quite a few times on 18 with a graupner 40mm prop(don't mistake that with a 440). I've also run it once on 24 cells. I doubt it will last long on 24 cells, but it holds up well on 18 and the right prop.

Gene, Yeah I consider, any bl pretty exotic, I am too new to start on something I haven't a clue about, when I am being reeducated regarding what seems to be the basics,,,,, I was looking for a motor with some umph but at 6 cells,,,,,,, My 700 was the 9.6 too, and I was running a prather i think it was the 235, surface drive,,,, then I tried three bladed props,,,, all kinds, sizes, and shapes,,,,, and then there was that strange smell, no it wasn't me, it was the motor,,,,,,,, and that sizzling sound,,,,,,,,, I eventually blew it up,,, somebody posted an autopsy photo of a 700 that went to the great beyond,,,,,, but I really liked the way it was moving along,,,,,, I have bought a few FD 775"s, and I hear everyone talking about the 700 8.4, will give that a go too, but the boat I've built, I planned to use a brush motor, maybe a mild modified trinity,,,,, what do you think, thx ed:confused:

The Megas that I mentioned aren't brushless. You can check them out at www.fastelectrics.com. For 6 cells you might check out the Mega mini. As far as learning anything on them, they're not really any different than the 05s except you run a larger prop because of the extra torque. Probably actually easier. I'm not really up on 05s though. I am about to order one. They've sparked my curiosity one to many times. :)

Ed,
I almost always have time to chat. I'll be wearing a yellow T-shirt with the logo on the back. Look for me at NAMBA (basement) or SubTech (main floor). I'll only be there Fri and Sat.
