View Full Version : Sermos Connector Convention?

As a newbie in the R/C boat field I've been reading this forum for the last two months and learned a lot. I'm ready to start modding my current boats and will start building another now that my garage has cooled down a bit.

Question - I bought some sermos connectors to use on the battery packs and in and out of my R/C-Hydros controllers. I will also use them for my motor connectors. From my reading, it appears that the convention is that the sermos connectors are stacked side to side for battery connections, and top to bottom for motor connections. Can anyone confirm that this is correct?

Thanks,
Bruce C.

There's no standard. I rarely if ever connect mine like that, but when I do I always put red on the right because it's easy to remember (especially if you have a full-size boat).

Andy,

So you're saying you always stack them side by side, or just leave each individual connector loose?

I dont think it matter how you stack or connect them. On the ones I have you can mount them in 3 ways. Im not sure if I want to mount them yet so Im gonna wait and see what works best for me.

I've been using Deans connectors thus far, but I have picked up packs from other FEers with Sermos connectors. For the most part, they are not stacked at all. This makes sense to me... it makes it easier to connect packs in series.

As the other guys said, it's personal preference. I do mine exactly like you say, just so I don't reverse the connection without realizing it.

Now... if only I could figure out a way not to plug my (2) 6 cell packs together...

I put the ESC to motor connectors together and leave the batery to esc connectors apart. It makes it so I can never plug the wrong thing in.

Bruce

I leave them loose.

Red is + on motor and battery.

Black is - on battery

Blue/Green is - on motor.

This way I can color code my connections and never mess anything up. An ESC breaks the black wire, so the red ones don't make a difference where they get connected.

In case you all don't know it, PowerPoles come in a rainbow of colors!

I ordered a package of 10 sets of Powerpole connectors from Tower Hobby, but haven't gotten them yet. I bought a set of Sermos connectors at a LHS in Austin yesterday. Someone in the LHS said that the Sermos and the 30 Amp Powerpoles used slightly different sized housings and were not compatible. I'll find out when I get the Powerpoles, but can anyone relieve my curiousity before then?

Thanks, Otis,

That's exactly what I was looking for.

Do you still have the bags of 25 sets available? I'd like to get one. private mail me with the payment details.
