View Full Version : Just finished my rudder setup(myfirst)

Heya
I just finished my rudder setup for my oval master
offshore this is my first Fe and I can't wait to run it.
I bought the wedge rudder from fdm the rest I made today.

LMK if you think it work ok. It has 1" gap between th prop and the rudder. It's an inline setup btw..

Eric, I think 1 " is a bit exessive for the gap, mine is more like an 1/8th, it'll work, but IMO it would be better closer to the prop, very nice job on the hardware, I have made a similar set up for my batboat in line, have you thought about just drilling the aluminum rod to mount the rudder? this is how FDM does it, you could drill it a size larger and put a piece of brass tube for a bushing, just a thought, but it looks very very good, good luck, cheers eddie

Well if it's too big I can change that no problem, thansk for the input:) I made the rudder swivel that way if I hit something it can pop up. The other way you mentioned would be way easier to make though. I made the strut with 3/8 brass with flange thrust bearings and a graupner flex connector.Probably too complicated but it runs with very little resistance. Hopefully the bearings hold out.I'll have to take em out after running too soak in alcohol ...

Erik, who told you about my driving???LOL, the pop up is very cool, I am looking into some rudder hardware for my UL-1(s), I did get another FDM rudder from MikeC in a Bargain Box (thanx Again Mike) the pop up is a cool idea!!good luck with it, cheers eddie
