LOL, I just ordered a new speed control from Andy a few minutes ago. My boats tend to get filled with water at least once every outing now.. I got water into my Tekin 432 yesterday and it stopped working. Hopefully I can let it dry out and it will start working again. If it still works, I'll keep the 432 as a back up ESC... just in case.

I like mine! I just put some servo tape on the bottom and right to the hull. My boat hasnt sunk yet so I havent been able to test out its waterproof features.... LOL

I have run mine with it totally submerged before. Never missed a lick. Best product available.

Is the 432M waterproof? I remember moisture getting inside of mine, you could see it inside the clear case, as well as having glitching problems.

Andys ESC's are bullet-proof. Not one failed at october heats.

I'm surprised that nobody traded in their BL ESCs there. Dan alone blew more on smoking BL controls than I did to be there!

To set the record straight, Andy's escs are second to NONE for a brushed setup. Nice to meet you at the race this weekend Andy.

Jeff,

It was great to meet you. It was really great to see your family out there and participating. I hope Jeanette especially enjoyed it.

Andy,

I think that she did have a good time. She likes to help out. God bless our wives, fiancés, and girlfriends that support us in our F/E venture, where would we be without them? I have a UL-125 built for Jeanette already (It is from Steve V). Jeanette and Linda were lightly talking about racing next year. I wonder if there can be a woman's class? The only reason I say that is to take the pressure off of them from racing guys who have been doing it for years. I have spoke to Jeanette about racing and her main concern is possibly damaging another racers boat. I have already given her the spiel about every time a boat leaves shore, there is always the inherent risk of not coming back and that is part of the risk you take. Look at us, our oldest son sank his brothers boat, I think it was an inside job :)

I have two of the Tekin 432's and both are sealed up tight with silicon. I also have two of Andy's ESC's so well see. While I am sure Andy's product will be fine I am hoping to not smoke the two Tekin's as they have been working so well.

Andy makes the best Brushed ESCs on the market... won't smoke... and they aren't afraid of water... How many manufacturers can say that with confidence... I have submerged mine, and after changing out my receiver...I was quickly back on the water... Now all I have to do is send him my backup receiver for waterproofing... I just have to figure out a way to make it where I can switch it from hydro to rigger... Hmmmm....
Andy...Any thoughts.....

You forgot to answer my indirect question.... is it possible to waterproof my backup receiver... and allow it to be used on two seperate hulls...
If so I will send it to ya...

Basically, I want this ESC to be able to not fry while pulling full throttle totally emersed in water. Can it do that?

Yes, Frank.

During the October heats (why weren't you there?!?!?!) I had Douggie drive the Q Sport Hydro I built for last year. It's a rather "wet" hull - the radio box is located poorly and fills with water immediately. This is an 18-cell hydro with a Plett 40-series in it.

The ESC (an SC5-HP) was totally submerged almost instantly. It never missed a beat. The rx and servo were, too (Dan - have you dried the servo out yet?).

Everything worked fine. The receiver is coated with the same compound I use on the ESCs.

You have nothing to fear, Frank. It isn't a woosy control.

Andy

PS - this boat is a "dry" one for me. Usually they make me drain my boats out so there's enough water for the next heat.

Laters,
Bryan

Sure. But receivers are only $50, so why not get another one and have me waterproof it first?

The only thing you need to remember is that the crystal gets glued in.

I didn't have the money to go to October Heats. Also, I was in the middle of a move.

I can't believe I'm wasting my 1000 post on something that has been covered repeatedly on this board, but here goes...

Yes, Frank, you can run the RC-Hydros ESC's completely submerged in water. I have put them in a glass of water to prove my point to club members. If they didn't believe that, when I had the entire sponson ripped open on the far buoy during a club meet, my hull filled completely with water. About the only thing that wasn't under water was my antenna. I drove the boat back to shore a la' submarine full throttle as it was going lower and lower in the water. Just before it went under I was able to grab it. This was witnessed by at least 10 club members. This made a lot of believers, I never doubted the speed control would fail, the receiver, & servo were a different matter.

When you get your RC-Hydros ESC, take your highest amp pulling monster you have, that doesn't exceed the manufactures warranty, dump your ESC in water and if it fries, I'll buy you new one!

LOL, okay, okay, okay. We'll see on the 2nd (providing I get my boat running by then)

Frank! now look at what you made Dan do! Your one thousandth post is a special thing and you made Dan use his repeating himself!

FrankW

LOL, don't worry, I saved a screen shot of it for posterity... and to take him up on his offer, just in case ;)

I wouldn't be worried either Dan i ran all year with one of Andy's sc3 hp controllers and I]got wet every weekend and never a problem . And it was located right in the middle of the hull.

I plan on buying one of your esc's soon Andy. All though I'm only putting it in a 30 year old cat i redid that is a dry boat (cheers to that) I plan on giving it quite a beating and the front isn't so strong but we'll she how she does. I'll be running the SC3-Sport with a 700. I can't wait!!
