I'm preparing for the arrival of my Oval Master kit, and I was planning to use Deans connectors, but thought I'd check here first. Is there any advantage to choosing Litespeed/Sermos or Astroflight connectors instead? Are there any high quality low resistance connectors which are solderless?

Secondly, I'm wondering about my charger. It's the Piranha Peak Power model DTXP4000. I think it's only recommended for 2000 amp packs. What happens if I try to charge a 2400? A 3000? How about a NiMH?

I'm going to power the Oval Master with the Trinity Green Machine 3 motor for starters because I already own one. Can I run this motor on seven cells or will that push too much heat into this 05 motor? I plan to run an x632 prop and a cooling coil.

Finally, is there a reasonably durable way to paint or plastikote boat fins and rudders other than setting up an electrified acid bath to anodize? Any kind of metal paint that really holds up?

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Matt

I think most here run sermos because they can be connected for series wiring easily. I don't use them and like the deans but sermos are probabably the most propular.

The motor will hold 7 cells but it comes down to prop and trim. That hull should be fine but you may want to start smaller like the 432 or 435 and see what kind of heat and runtime you get.

Randy at BBY can tell you some good tips on that hull since it is popular and has been in the racing scene for several seasons.

As far as the charger....not sure but I would think it would handle it ok for nicd...not sure on the nickel cells. It will just take your charger longer to charge them.

YOu should get some other feed back as well.

i have deans on all my stuff, cars, boats and even my airplane! and soldering them is no big deal! it helps if u have a little electrical vice that u can move around w/ the suction thingyon the bottom. They say to use a 700 degree F iron, but all u realld need is somthging hot enough to melt some 60/40 solder, tip: tin the wires and the conectors! and always use solder to melt solder (faster)

if the reson that u want solderless onse is cuz u dont have the equipment to do it, u can get a iron for like $5 and a roll of some solder for like $3-4 go to radio shack or somthing!
