Very cool! The track sure looks purpose built for tether cars!

Tether cars, boats & planes were popular long before radio control and even after radio control first came out. RC was very expensive in the early days and very bulky compared to what we have now. When I was a kid, RC was out of the question, so I started with tether cars & planes. One summer my father who was in property management was invited to a Hawaiian resort for a month. the resort was on the opposite end of the island from Waikiki Beach and was completely dead. It was an old resort and there were no kids to play with and maybe only 1/3 of the rooms were filled, mostly with senior citizens. After a week or so I was going stir crazy and my Mom took me a local hobby shop. They had an 18" Dumas tethered Miss Thriftway shovelnose kit powered by a Cox .049. I ran that boat until the hull finally split open just before we were ready to leave the island!

As to why people still do it, I guess we all have a hard time letting go of our youth as we get older. When I first got back into RC boats, I started thinking of that old Miss Thriftway kit. I find them on Ebay sometimes usually selling for well over $100 and sometimes over $200! I have one built now for static display and another kit I am going to use as a template for a RC micro. The original kit sold for under $10 and the hardware was another $10!

Do a search on ebay sometime, you will see there is a huge market for old tethered cars, boats & planes!

Well, enough of the rambling down memory lane! Now I can afford RC!

One Word "WOW"
I remember the days of the airplanes like that! We would go round and round in circles until we almost fell from being dizzy!

One problem with that video, check out the bird in the background, seems like the bird is on nitro!
