Boy chris is a slipery guy hard toget a hold of. Ive emailed, saw he was on line on wednesday and personal mailed him and I don't think he looks at the persoanal mail and saw he was on line again and tried this thread and he went off line before I finished. Maybe tomorrow he will see the post.
SS1 VS Astro 25/5

Chris I was wondering how do you think one of your SS1 motors would compare with a Astroflight 25/5 turn using the setup below. I run in Classic Thunder in Seattle and it is getting harder to get Astroflight motors and we may be looking for an alternative.
1/10th scale Hydros aprox 36 to 40 inches long
5.5 lbs to 6 lbs in weight
Straight shaft
Octura X447R prop
Astroflight 25/5 turn reversed
2400 nicads 12 cells
Thanks
Jim Clark

Chris is very computer shy, if you need to talk to him you need to call him. Don't take it personally, I don't think he ever answers emails.

I would definitly like to know what comes of all this. I am still interested in making a CT, but the lack of motors is kinda setting the idea on the back burner.

BTW, Jim, If I can give you guys my humble opinion, I would be looking at the Plett 30 series in a 5-6 turn. They are extremely dependable, re-buildable and will push your big boats at a pretty good clip compared to the SS1. Of course, there is always a down side, you wont be picking up the Plett for $65, but they are still available new and there is a big used market for them in the $100-$150 range. I don't ever plan to part with any of my Pletts.
