Hello,
I am new to the board, is there anybody here running outboards or interested in them?
I have been away from the hobby for almost 10yrs now and want to get my Bud Light F1 running fast. I also have some K&B lowers i want to modify with gear reduction and electric.
Are there any good links out there.
Thanks,
Nut

Try www.fastelectrics.com Andrew runs an outboard on his wavemaster and if the boat can be made fast he can do it. He is a great guy with great prices on what he sells and free shipping.

I will post some pics as I get them.
J Tracey: I saw the pic of your outboard mono and that is one sharp boat! I also saw the ad in RCBM for it too. What does that set up cost and what speeds will it run? Does it use the power trim? Please post more pics.
What is the word on these graupner outboards? I have run graupner outdrives with success in the past.
Thanks,
Nut

Nut,
I do not have any more pictures of this boat. It was finished before Christmas and delivered to the person that wanted it built. It runs better than 30.2 M.P.H. and has 20 2400 cells. The owner fried the motor week before last and wants to put in another Graupner 800. Give me an e-mail and I can give you the price and any other info that you need.:bounce:

Scott how do you stop that hull spinning out. for the time being I have decided either I elimnate the steps or put very deep ride pads on it

the only way i have found to stop it from spinning is to back off to about 3/4 at say bouy 1 and jump back on it 2/3rds around corner my ride plates are a little thinner than step in hull am also going to smooth out so its not stepped there

Scott
one of the things I noticed is that the on the surface I use to set prop depth - when I bring the nose down as in a turn the prop lifts way out of the water (we know this right?!) - fast in a strate line a dig in turns
I thought I could rememedy this in one of 3 ways
1. stumble pads - the stock ones dont get near water when the hull is turning they need to be a minimum 1/2" deeper than the sponson to do that - I havent tested that yet but eyeballing it this is a minimum for keeping the nose up. The downside is that structure may make it illegal i.e. a 5 point hydro and I don know that this hull needs more lift in a strate line.
2. build up the steps to smooth them into the front half of the hull
The stock stumble blocks still have no effect but the leg is dropped way down (so the prop is in the water) - problem here the whole running attitude and aerodynamics of the tunnel is altered. It will run a far more nose down attitude - proabbly suck onto the water! and no tunnel lift
3. the problem to me is the contour of the front part of the sponson.
As the boat turns, the nose drops the hull rides on the front step which is about the centre of the hull (too close to the transom) and instead of keeping the rear down it lifts it
I think the recontouring of that front sponson to eliminate the "fulcrum" is what is needed.
Use a block and snading it down should work well- that will take of the vertical sponson sides and leave a plate in the middle which can be used for reinfocring the ned ride surface - also the building up of the stumble blocks to help keep the tail down in a turn
The Adv's of this are
* it's legal
* it doesnt alter the running attitude of the hull only its behaviour in turns so the aerodynamics are maintained.
What do you think?
If you like I will cut mine and let you know how it goes as it has the same leg as yours
Hey - heres a trick take all the stuff out of it and run your lighting man motor in it on 8 cells a y536 or 438
lots of fun
