HOLE SHOT

Would someone out there know just who builds this motor, and if so how could I get the motor specifications? Thinking about getting the MEGATECH CARIBBEAN CRUISER and it comes stock with the SPEED 550s. APPRECIATE ANY INFO!!! Thanks, THE LAB RAT...ok, I think that the motor is made by Graupner, but I couldn't find it listed on their website, however they do have some really cool looking boats on there, check them out! It's worth the time!!!!!!!!

Hole shot, graupner does make a 550 however it is the size of the motor, it is sold as a graupner 600.
let me explain, the basic car motor with changeable brushes etc are generally referred to as an 05 motor
then we have the sealed can motors meaning that you cannot (easily) get to the brushes, but these are about the same can length of the 05 these motors are generally called 540's, now the longer can motors ie speed 600, s-600, these are what are termed 550 size motors
as you have found the graupner site the
speed 500 is a 540 motor
speed 600 is a 550 motor
speed vs is an 05,
generally the longer can improves torque, while the shorter can has better rpm
hope this helps,
cheers eddie

I ran the 550/600 on 12 cells for a couple years on a gear set up. They fly. When they go you can replace them cheap. as long as the gears can handle it.
All of Graupners motors are either Mabuchi, Johnson or Sagami.
i was using the 8.4 version of the 550. I think that is what comes in the Super Hawaii stock.

The Super Hawaii comes with M & Y 550 motors. To answer the original question posed the motors in the Megatrash boat are going to be very cheap motors from the likes of Mabuchi or Johnson. Sealed cans. To be honest don't waste your money on the thing. If you want a good boat buy something used here on our swap shop or see about putting together an EV with a 700 motor. If you want more information on the Caribean Cruizer do a searh in the Q & A forum. It looks good, it runs ok until everything gets hot. A piece of junk IMHO.

I was wondering given what mike jhas said - if you like the look of the Megatech - it sruns ok it gets hot - avoid replacing the 550 motors - leave the stock hardware in place and get yourself a 700 bb watercool it run all day long at near 30mph and enjoy the boat .

M&Y....yeah right...try Mabuchi. They make virtully all the motors in that class and the 700...except the NEO and that is a Johnson. I have seen plenty of the 550/600 motors and they are Mabuchi.
Graupner motors...yep...Mabuchi and Johnson.
I made a ton of calls over these motors over the last couple years. Dewalt is the only US motor manufacter there is and we are not getting their motors...yet. Mabuchi and Johnson have offices in the US but productionis mainly done in Japan. Sagami is another--I think they make the 600SP motors.
Just my 2 cents

There is a great idea. The only hitch I can see is putting the 700 in place of the pair of 550's
In the alternative, Graupner via Hobby-Lobby sells a boat that is identical to the Megatrash but with one motor making the conversion a touch easier.

twmaster, do you own the Mega Cruiser? If not how do you know its trash. By what other people tell you?
Hole Shot if you go for it, have fun with it then upgrade to 700 motor, more speed and runtime.

OK smart guy, if you would pay attention instead of being a jerk you would see that my American Dream is coming out of a turn. As anybody knows hydros do lose some speed in the turns.
For your information the boat has a Plettenberg 290/20/4 with 8 2400's and an X632 prop.

No I do not own one. A friend did and it is an awful boat. Sadly it does have decent speed but overheats quickly and melts motor and battery connections.
He has since sold it and bought an El Lobo.

Actually ElWacko, I don't think of myself as a smart guy. Just average but, if you say I'm smart. I WON"T ARGUE. From the picture it sure looks like your boat is going straight. And for your information. anything that knows anything about boating knows, that Mabuchi 775 are your standard 8.4 - 9.6 and 12 700 - motors. Your 9.6 neo is made by Johnson. Totally different can. Pay attention you might learn something. Your Bud Mike:D

I have not seen one, Andy. What do they look like and how do you know it is DeWalt?
I know a person can get them but not many parts dist. carry them. 1 or 2 here and there is all I have seen.
we do know one thing...they are suppose to be the one of the best and strongest motors to daye...so DeWalt says.
They are just very hard to get.

part# 396505-03
MOTOR & PINION $41.15
18v motor from dewalt website.
They say its instock.

I spoke with DeWalt not long ago and here is what they say.
The 18V is made by them...replaceable brushes, etc...sounds like the 800.
All others they are saying that they do not produce...he did not want to say but the nod came that they were Johnson motors.
Yep, I have that part number and may try one.

Oh...here are a couple more.
14.4 - 3956505-01 - 46.35 (I think NEO)
9.6v 389320-00 is $28.89 (a Johnson motor without bearings.)

Hey guys Im not sure how this topic went from small motors to bigger ones but that TURBO RACE 820 is no slouch 600watts but its a big pig,I just never figured how many volts it could realy take it was rated at 24 volts max ,now we run 16 cells on 8.4 -700s for test runs, what could a 24 rated motor take36 volts?????:D
Jeff Wohlt
11-27-2002, 01:11 AM
Well...looks to me to be about the cheapest place to buy a NEO and the 800 motor as well but who knows.
The 800 seems to be best on 18-24 cells but Andrewg has the real scoop on these because there are different models and volts. He da man on these motors. K.R Joye has run them and likes them but again, depends on which one.
For me, this is the only feasble option to be able to run the large cell count. I would like a good motor, cheap that runs 18 cells.
