If you were a 9 year old girl in Afghanistan you would be glad to be there.

Someday you'll be glad.

I used to sit in study dreaming about going home. Work hard, not to sound like an old man but it pays off later it life. I took the easy way out. I joined the family biz. I was big into computers in the early 1980's, I should have went on and did what I love!

I have been "big" into computers since 1978 when my Dad bought a TRS-80 Model I Level I.

I hate them now. I should have been a farmer.

Shoot, my kid makes $20 an hour waiting tables at Perkins. Something is wrong here!

Andy how about the Commodore 64! Hell I remember my apple computers that we started up and all you saw was a blinking cursor! When my father bought a windows 3.1 computer I was in Love!

Never had to work on a Commodore. We had Apple ]['s in college as a freshman. Them and a small mainframe. As a sophomore I transferred to UNCW and worked on a big IBM (3081?) using punched cards - they were great for practical jokes.

It's too bad the Amiga never caught on. The OS and architecture were top.

ha OLD TIMERS!!! we have so many computers in our high school, over 500! and they are all networked too (so they can monitor us!) but i would hate to hhave a virus in that system! and then the elemantary schools and middle schools are all networked together and they all go to one central station, so in all we probly have about 2000-2500 computers all together in the school district!

;) Well, now we know who programmed that Y2K bug back in the 70's! That was some college prank Andy!

Sorry, but none of my applications ever suffered from it - I only worked in 4-digit years. I wish I could have claimed credit for the panic and hysteria some worthless gubmit official conjured up.

HEY!!!... I need to check this part of the board a little more often. Sounds like everyone is in my world. I must say, "I'm glad to be at work". My connection at home is a little slower, so I don't get to surf as much there.
Avenger-That monitoring stuff was an excuse to put in T1s. Schools these days have it made. I installed Cisco switches for some of the schools around here. They were all tied into the central office with T1s. We put over ten switches in some of the schools. That's at around $2800 per switch. Quite a few of them had brand new Dells too. When I was in school, the computers that collected dust were Commodores. Back then, I probably couldn't have figured out where the power button was.

Happy surfing.... I need to get a real job again. MIS dept's can be boring.

School may suck. But as many people know what has an education done for them. Over here in Oz if you not an actor, model, or own your own buisness you need an education. Geez were else do you get to socialise apart from the night clubs.

Harry we don't want to get into argument here but this is the "off topic" forum. I think Don's intention of the part of the site is for things like this! Don't come here if you don't want to read it!
I hope maybe we can help kids out like this!

Go for it. For my senior year in HS I went 1/2 day and took every afternoon off, or worked for college tuition. When I went to college I tested out of a year of majors classes, which came handy on getting out early there too. I probably should have stayed one more semester because that would have given me a math major in addition to the two computer science ones. I had a bad case of senioritis though and everything has worked out reasonably well.

Yeah, and I had a 3.86 on graduating college, I think it was 3.95 from HS, but NOBODY will look at those numbers after your first recruiter is done with you.
