Those are so cool! I bought a SUV and the Avalanche came out a few months later. If I had waited a few more months, that's what I would have bought.

Dan thats how they keep getting us to buy cars every few years. Maybe things will work out your way? I hear next year the 6.0 motor may be an option! The standard and only motor in the 1500 is the 5.3. I found 1 of only 2 trucks in all of MA that had 4.1 rear gears. It makes a big diff on at lower speeds!

they only put 5.3L in the avalanches? i thought that they would put the 8L HD motor in them! those are big trucks to be pushing around w/ only that little motor! just like that big one that ford has the only engine that can really even make it go is the 10cyl engine my dad test drove the one w/ like that 4.6L in a 7000lb car not much pick up!

believe it or not I thought the same. the 2500 comes with a 8 liter motor and is the same speed in the 1/4mile, but the torque is much greater for towing something!

but that is all that i would use it for anyway towing stuff! if you are gona have a big truck use it! thats what i dont understand w/ all these people w/ the big 4x4 SUVs the most off roading that they do in them is maybe they have to pass on the right on the shoulder and get into that dirt! (not everyone tho) what does that 8L come out to be like a 496ci or somthing?(i gess that im old school, i like everything in CI.)

Something like 496, the old 502 is 8.2ci so the 8.0 is in the 490 range. I can tow my 6000 boat with room to spare with the 5.3liter. Thats the reason I searched for a truck with 4.1 gears, this gave me 1000lbs more towing. The 8.0 is a waste for me and a serious gasaholic!
