Hey man,
well yes... you need Winzip or some other type of unzipping program in order to open the file... it saved like 300k when I zipped the file... plus its easier to download... if I put up a direct link to the image it tries to open the .tft file in a browser...
Laters...

Donnie,
Does the copy you downloaded look enormous as well. At 100% it appears to print out at 2'' to the length of one page. I really want to build this hydro, but not at 389 pages. Please help.

look at my post in the Ok Builders - Hydromite Plans on-line thread and you get your answer to the file size problems.

Gents,
I have been working hard to change the plans Doug so graciously shared with us all to a format that may be more friendly to some of us.
Bear with me, it is time consuming.
When done, you will have a file that is usable on any CAD program.
Thanks again to Doug for all of his hard work.

Might I suggest that perhaps Doug (or Don?) should make full-size prints available for a nominal fee? It would save a lot of grief for those who can't use the file.

Andy...I think on the home page it says there 15$..I think ive used that in ink already..might be the best way to go :) plus Im sure there worth it...Rex
I have the full size print, and it is worth it. I just can't bring myself to start cutting it up. I'll just leave it up on the wall a little longer.

Guys
I anticipated that this might be the best way to go, especially when part size and shape is critical. This is why I have full-size , one-piece paper plans rolled in a tube (made on a Xerox Engineering copier) available by mail. The cost is $15.00 + $5.00 (postage). E-mail me your address and sen your money by Paypal - to forresterace@yahoo.ca. If you want to send a money order email me for an address.
SPECIAL: 2 copies of plans (in same tube) - $ 22.00 + $5.00
LOU says he wants to leave his set of plans up on his workshop wall! Get a second set.
Dumb questions for Doug (or anyone else who knows....)
I noticed on the plans that you recommend plastic props. Why is this? Weight? Lower rotating mass?
Second question: Are Sanyo Cp1300 SRC cells the same size as standard sub-C cells? Would any sub-C battery work?
Lastly, is there anywhere online that shows the bill of materials? I see the Octura stuff, and really appreciate having plans for the hardware ... I'm mainly concerned about the wood, so that if I go to buy my balsa online I get more than I need (Ideally, I'd build 2 hulls at once....).
Thanks,
Otie

There are only unasked questions and that's dumb.
Otis: The prop sizes that are most likely to work for the 480 motor are in the 27mm to 31mm range, which is why I suggested the X427, X430 and the X431 (plastic). If you are going to try cutting down the blades on a prop, I suggest that you try it on the X431 it's plastic and cheap and because its being plastic and very lightweight make it easier to and more forgiving of poor balance due to uneven cutting.
The Sanyo CP1300 cell is considerably smaller than the typical sub C cell. It is also the largest cell that you are going to be able to fit in the Hydromite and still get it to balance correctly. There are smaller capacity cells that will fit but I think that they will have difficulty in providing a good turn of speed for 4 minutes with a 480 motor.
I never did prepare a bill of materials for the boat. I'll try to figure one out and post it sometime tomorrow.

I can't figure out how to print a fullsize version on a regular printer. Can some computer dude that knows windows XP tell me directions to do that?
The ability to print the image in "sections" will be highly dependent on what graphics program you're trying to use. A little more info on your PC setup might help ... what programs (MS Office? PS Pro? Photoshop?) do you have?
Alternately, you may be able to take the image file to kinko's or a company that does architectural duplicating and have them run you full size prints.

Ok, My PC is brand new, all it has right now is MS office.
Try inserting the Pic into excel. I just tried it with a pic on my desktop - it should automatically do the page breaks for you. You may have to resize the pic to get it on the # of pages you want.

could someone please translate this into english for me? I don't get all this computer talk
would a program called Kodak Imaging work for the plans? how would I print them as a certain number of pages rather that just one ?
^I hope that makes sense^

Hi Matt
What's your time and aggravation worth, Matt? Even if you do get it to print out as a multipage set of prints, you still have to tape it all together accurately. This is assuming that your print-outs are correctly-sized in the first place.
You might consider buying a one piece rolled plan, which I offer for $15 plus $5 for postage and mailing tube. E-mail me if you're interested. forresterace@yahoo.ca

Otis, How in the heck did you get that into excel, When I open excel the page is in tons of little blocks. When I open the pic in that program, it shows as symbols?
I'm using Excel 97, so I don't know if the menus will be the same for you.
I used INSERT -> PICTURE -> FROM FILE.
This should paste the picture over the cells (the little boxes you're talking about). If you click on the picture once to hilight the border, you should be able to grab the corners and resize it to suit your needs.
You can see the pagination on FILE -> PRINT PREVIEW. I think that FILE -> PAGE SETUP will allow you to specify how many pages to print on (i.e. force it to be 3 pages wide by 4 pages tall, or something).
I'm going from memory, I happen to be in Linux right now, which is definitely the land of no Micro$oft programs.

where can I get the props? and motor?
Motors can be bought from www.fastelectrics.com. Andrew might carry the props too. Otherwise, anyplace that carries FE props (such as FFE at www.drcwebservices.com/ffe/) should be able to get you what you need.
I opend de plans in paint and they printed on 12 sheets.
I use XP

This is probably a really dumb question but, how did you get it into paint? was it copied and pasted?
I saved the file on the computer and dan opend thad file whit paint. You gat to doe a lot of taping to get a ful plan but its worth it in the end.

Just as a side note, Kinkos wants $33-$45 to print out these plans. At least thats what they told me when I swung in today.
Ive been putting off building one of these, have the wood now for a few months.

Just as another side note....
I still have the plans, from my original mylar, one piece rolled in a tube for $15 + $5 postage/tube. Also, I have styrene vacuum-formed cowls for $5 incl. postage.
SPECIAL: 2 sets of plans and a cowl - $27 + $5 shipping
E-mail: forresterace@yahoo.ca (also PAYPAL acct.)

Just as a side note....
wouldn't it be better to throw Doug a few bucks rather then your local copy shop??? After all, he IS the one that spent all the time to design it?!?

Building on a very limited budget is hard. Nothing against Doug, but If I could get a print made for $2 or so that would be the best route for me. As stated before Im on unemployment, have a 2 year old, wife and all the bills to go along with it. I thought the hydromite could soke up some of my time, which I have plenty of.
*EDIT*
My future boss ran me a set of plans off about 2 weeks ago. I have been slowly building this boat over time. Its a nice design I just didnt know at first to sand thru all the lines. Instead I left them.
The boat is together and is in the paint process although almost done. The canopy is there but Im still working on finishing it up. The main part of the boat will be done tomorrow.
Superman theme....
Will post some pics.
Doug do you accept Roayalties? If so I will send in a small donation.
Thanks,
