I decided to start a new thread on this rather than have it appear at the bottom of a long string on "transferring parts to wood".
There is a fantastic template material called SeeTemp available. I picked up a large quantity several years ago at the Toledo show and have been using it ever since. Recently I found them on the internet so it is still available.

This material is about .015" thick and is some type of light pebble-grained, semi-transparent plastic sheet (very flexible). The plastic template material is simply laid over the drawing/plan and the outline can be traced with a pencil or scored with an Exacto knife. All it takes, is a light score/cut with the knife and then the plastic material is bent back and forth on the cutline and it breaks cleanly. This template can then be used to trace parts on wood. I even use it to duplicate the same curved line when I'm drawing plans. Being able to see through the material is the key to its usefulness.
Their website is very informative, check it out. The sheet size of the material is 21.5" X 51.5" and it costs $5.00/sheet or $22.00 for 5 sheets (best deal)
