Jeff, this one's just up your alley...
Just got it, a little work to be done to it, but just cosmetics...
1998 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor Package...
I work with the guy that traded it in on an Intrepid... So I picked it up for a song...

They ought to call it certifiable... It will do every bit of the topend and then some... I already tested it out... Thank's to friends with private roads... :D P.S.- Don't try this at home... Katie probably won't ride along on the next Interceptor test drive...

hey Check out www.crownvic.net it's a forum for crown vics, grand maquis and towncars... im on there, mostly in the 5.0/5.8L forum, you would be mostly in the 4.6L! man i want a new PI so bad they look awesome! you can get the somewhat cheap too (compared to a new CV or GM) some of the guys on there have AED superchargers and are running 12.30's in the 1/4 mile, we went to the track and my car weighs 4002lbs with me and a full tank!
Avenger, that is a cool site. I never imagined people liked Crown Vic's like I do. Must be in other places cuz around my area the only CV's are cop cars.
I wanted a Marauder sooo bad, but I just can't deal with car payments anymore. Besides we have 4 cars already, my Dodge Ram; my Firebird; my wifes Thunderbird and her Explorer.

Panther cars are great! I've got the 4.6L too. These things are the Traction Miester on a rainy day. Front wheel drives and trucks can't hang with limited slip and traction control. I've got a '97 Town Car. Haven't had a girl that didn't like it yet. :)
Another site to try is: www.lincolnsonline.com
Lincoln, Ford, Mercury...... same thing.

Do you think you'll do any performance mods? If you want some easy power, do a web search for "MAF carve".

My wife and I were stuck in traffic the other day behind a black car.
A new-looking Ford Taurus SHO.
With the "Police Interceptor" logo on the trunk, and a light package, and MG tags ("MG" is "Municipal Govt" - what the Barney's get in NJ. Troopers get SP State Police tags).
Glad he was in front of me rather than behind me.
I just have to wonder how they got a PI under a Taurus hood ;)

The MAF carve is free. Nowhere near the power of a supercharger, but every little bit helps. Rather than spend 3-400 dollars on a larger MAF, you just carve that middle piece out and you have a 75-80mm MAF. It comes out slightly lean, but only barely. Try it! You'll like it!

you guys have it easy with the mod. motos! the 4.6 is a great motor (but i bet i have you beat on torque with my good old pushrod(5.0)) if i wanted to do a cam swap on my car i would 1 either convert it from speed density to MAF or get it dyno tuned and get a custom chip burned, speed density is more eficient but MAF is way more versitile.

What is the top speed of your car with that 5.0? Just curious....
Mine is a tad over the listed spec...

my spedo does not go past 85 so past that who knows, but me and my friend were going down the highway and he has a mustang w/ a 150 spedo and he was doing 115 he said and i was just nudging past him... and i was redline, (well about 100 rpm from (i got a tach))

Wow. You must have some pretty low gears. You'd definitely have us off the line. I was just a tad over 100 the other day and it downshifted to 3rd. My speed limiter is at 105. I've thought of getting that removed, but the highest rated white walls I can find put my limit at 118 anyways. Maybe if ever get rims so that I don't need white walls, I'll remove the speed limter. I would think it will get to 125+. I doubt yours is limited by power. It's probably just the gearing.

Geesh... I hope ya'll (Jeff) are not racing down the highway....
My ride was built to go fast if it is necessary... as opposed to just because...
But... I'd like to see it have the ability to go faster... In case I come across any exotics...

actualy i dont have low gears, i have a fairly tall gearing, i have 3.73's and i was turning about 6,500 rpm! i dont have white walls it actualy makes the car look better than with them (i think) and that 118mph rating is continous like 10-15min at that speed, if you hit 119 for a few seconds they tires arnt gonna shread! i dont think that there is a speed limiter on the box body cars(79-91) the actual limiter id the body design and the lack of top rpm HP to push it threw the air! and when i was going 115 there was no more power and it did nothing when i flored it! i think the tires that i have on it are up at 130mph...

We're law abiding. The law states that anyone who does certain things should be ticketed. I've been ticketed,....I've paid my tickets. That's law abiding, right? :D .....Just kidding.
Avenger.... yeah, I have thought about removing the speed limiter for that reason, but I know I would end up cruising at that speed one day. I had H rated on my Maxima. It was able to make use of every bit of that.
Speed.... it's in our blood. That's why we run fast electrics instead of scale. That's also one of the big reasons I bought this car. I figured it'd help me to slow down. It did,... but "slow" is realitive. I try to distract myself with things like R/C boats, but I MUST have my head under the hood of a car occasionally. When I had my MR2 and Maxima, I'd work on them every weekend.

Andy - Yeah, I guess that's true. I was mostly talking about the big stuff with gel cells.
About the scale boat running with riggers, that's kinda my theory too. Riggers are easier to keep on the water, but technically a scale like boat should be faster. It's easier to go through air than through water. Just a lot harder to tune.
BK,... it looks brand new!... ... I mean, your kid does. :)

What I fail to understand is why so many cops speed around when they have non-speed rated tires. ALL of the cops around here have the same speed rated tires as a taxi, which is only 85 as far as I know, and yet I see them speeding constantly, many times I'm sure way over the limits of the tires.
rcrdps
08-27-2003, 12:42 PM
non-rated tires? I'd find that kinda hard to believe. Even if they're only S rated, that puts you at like 105. Most tires I see on people's cars are S rated. It's kinda standard these days. You have to buy _really_ cheap tires to not get S rated. Either that or knobby mud tires.

Cop's usually put the cheapest tires they can afford on the cars.
Unless they are, for example, 235/75 VR 15 and it only says 235/75 R15 thats a non-speed rated tire as far as I knew.
