I want to get an air compressor to power an airbrush and possibly some small air tools and tires ect. What sizes are acceptable? Anyone got any reccomendations?

Hello Jim,
I use a Coleman 5 gallon comp that I picked up at Menards for 98.00. Works great and is very portable and will do more than power the airbrush.
Paul.
One of my Christmas presents this year was a 4 gallon pump from Sam's Club. Price was about $100, give or take. This is a real compact unit, and has an ext. regulator. The tank pumps up to 120psi, but the output is adjustable from nothing to everything.
As Paul suggested, this will do a LOT more than run an airbrush.

Jim, I think Otis and Paul, are about right, I just wanted to add that usually it's the smaller tools that eat up CFM, ie die grinders D. A. sanders, so check the flow, Harbor freight usually has good value for the money, I buy a lot of stuff for my milling machine and lathe there,,,,, Otis is right that sometime sams club has really good deals on a cambell hausfield unit, I use a really small compressor for my air brush, you don't need a lot of PSI, I got it a long time ago from micromark, I am in the process of making a holding tank for extra air caoacity out of an old helium ballon tank,,, (just like the old freon cans) you can pick them up at party city ,,, anyway I was thinking that if you also installed a tire valve, you could fill it up at the gas station, for free,,,, (or from your compressor at home) and then you don't need to hear that irritating noise when your trying to do the fine stuff,,, anyway just a couple of thoughts,,,, cheers eddie

My neighbor used a compressor from a refrigerator for his air-brush. It won't run much else but it is as quiet as... well your fridge. If you look around I'll bet you could find one for free. Hook it up to a tank and away you go.
