I thought I heard that you guys were going to have a race down in your area?

Hi, Dan.

Sort of, maybe, hopefully.... Here's the full scoop.....

I started an RC Regatta last summer. Had about 40 guys show up over the weekend...sail and scale mostly. All weekend, the question most often asked by spectators was "when do the races start". (I guess yatch racing doesn't count in a country where NASCAR is the most profitable sport.)

A friend and I figured that PT Barnum would have given them what they want, so we went out the next week and bought T-Pluses. We quickly learned that the T-Pluses would be fun against each other, but to race with others, we'd need different boats.

I don't know if you remember us from Batavia. We were just there Saturday asking a lot of questions. I had the T-Plus with me but didn't run it.

The short of it is I now have 5 FE hulls; a UL-1, a Taifun, Systems Cat, Key West and the T-Plus.

Back to racing...our event is June 8-9. I know your parade is the 9th. My event is in conjunction with a town festival so I can't do anything about dates.

I love to get some more FE'rs here on Saturday the 8th, but until I know we can attract some numbers, I can't see going to any great lengths to formally organize a full day of racing with awards and such. However, I am confident it will happen in coming years.

This year, I'd like to gather as many as I can for "exhibition" racing, probably just (roughly) using something like Batavia's Spec Sport Hydro and Offshore rules, with the exception that flex shafts and bronze props are OK. IOW, we just spec the motor.

We have permission at our pond to have buoys out all year, so all that I can promise is at least 3 more guys to run with and a course to run on. (Paul Pachmeyer has initially indicated interest. I get the feeling that Paul's enthusiasm doesn't need much motivation for him to jump at a chance to run with others. Right Paul?)

I'll have a website up and fully running very soon. The shell is in place and I try to add content daily. www.madisonrcboats.org It'll be organized much like Edina is, i.e. one big club with specialized areas of interest. I hope it'll help bring other RC boaters in the area out of the woodwork. I've also populated the local hobby shops with material, including some business cards that I made up.

So, if you feel like a nice ride in the country and some pond time in WI on June 8th, by all means come on down. My promise is we'll have fun and return the favor by attending Edina's stop on the yet-to-be-organized Great Midwest Fast Electric Racing Series. (MI and IL are in place, we just need to add WI and MN and then tie them all together.)

Now that I've dished out all the disclaimers here's the bottomline conclusion:

It only takes two to have a race, so yes, we are definitely racing FE in Mazomanie, WI on June 8th.
