Inside Miss Pepsi

Posted 08-01-2010 at 07:49 PM by dauminator (1/10 Scale building)

When Miss Pepsi first hit the water in the summer of 2005, she was intended to race under E-RCU rules and accordingly was fitted with an AstroFlight 325 brushed motor, 12 Sub-C NiMH batteries and a solid shaft. Today she is NAMBA legal with a Himax brushless motor, a .150" flex drive, a Spektrum radio, and a pair of 2S LiPO's. A look of Chuck's shoulder shows the cockpit detail. Under the aft hatch is the dual rudder rig and the water cooling pickup comming from the keel behind the prop....

Finished Miss Pepsi

Posted 07-29-2010 at 01:53 AM by dauminator (1/10 Scale building)

Here are some photos of the finished product. She will actually keep up with the 3-pointer when I get the weight aft. I have yet to get it far enough aft yet since she has a nasty tendency to barrel roll. Not in the turns but in the straightaways. One good bounce that gets those little rudders out of the water and the prop walks her over. Otherwise she has good manners, e.g. no wantng to swap ends in a turn.

More Miss Pepsi Construstion

Posted 07-22-2010 at 12:11 AM by dauminator (1/10 Scale building)

When John Hacker designed the Miss Pepsi, he was well aware of the Clel Perry designed and built first Miss Pepsi's shortcomings. Not only did he design her with self ventilating steps like My Sweetie but added both vents and self bailers. Check out the photo on the left of the museum boat. All those clamshell ventilators all over the deck are not for display, they are each plumbed to a vent on the bottom. Accordingly, my model incorporates step vents too.
