John Hacker designed Miss Pepsi for the Dossin family of Detroit. Unlike his successful My Sweetie, Pepsi was twin vee step with twin Allison engines driving into a central vee drive gear box. As I poured over pictures, notes and drawings made by others of the museum boat, I became convinced the John Hacker used Lindsay Lord's "Naval Architecture of Planing Hulls" (1946 First Edition) as his guide. The sides deck and transom are now installed. This is 1/26" Mohogany vanier epoxied onto 1/64" aircraft plywood. The sheer cap and sheer clamp are cut and shaped from 1/4" thick Mohogany stock. Varnish, cowl and paint and you have a finished fast step hull.

The last step is outfitting and applying the graphics. Precision Screen Graphics of Woodinville (just down the street) took the photos I got from Roger Newton and made up all the graphics for me.

The process is repeated up to the bump step and it is then framed out and skinned. The darts are then fitted to the bump step prior to putting on the forward part of the bottom. With that the, bottom is complete and now to the sides.

The bottoms are installed working from aft to forward. With the aft bottom in place, the framing for the primary step is completed and then it also has the bottom skin installed. This is when the center part of the keel is cut away to open the trunk and the skeg fitted.

In the photos above, you see the keel assembly which si made up of three 1/32" pieces sandwiching two 1/8" balsa fillers. This is how I provide for the 5/32" wide skeg trunk.

The bulkheads that form the transom of the bump and primary steps are similarly made up.

With the bulkheads mounted to the keel, the sheer pieces and the inboard longitudinals and aft floor glued, it is time to start putting in the chine stringers, bottom pieces and binishingout...
