Ammo Can for Safe Lipo Storage

Today at the gun show I purchased one ammo can to store all my Lipo batteries. They come in various sizes and cost was $10.00 each or two for $15.00. Just thought I would "show and tell".

Yeah I have one also for 7.62 bal ammo! The nice thing about them ... back in the day when Boones Farm wine was all the rage you could lay 2 or 3 bottles in one ... cover with ice and go to drive in movies! At least that's what I was told! Being an upright god fearing Marine that I am I have never done that!!!

Ever seen the video of the top of one of those cans being blown off?

They say you should drill a few vent holes in the lid to be safe.

Here's video of 3s lipo burning in thin cash box. The thin box with it's loose venting held up easily.

One trick i learned a few years ago for nihm was an ammo can with a small lawn mower muffler welded onto it. drill the proper sized holed, ream it to size needed, weld a pipe adapter on and screw on the small muffler, lots of pics floating around the net, works for lipo too.

I was looking for that post yesterday Jim but for some reason I couldn't find it. There is no doubt that Lipo's are scary. Sometimes after we run our boats we like to go out to eat afterwards but I am ALWAYS nervous about leaving my lipo's in my car no matter what they are stored in.

I have two options...install lawn mower muffler onto ammo can...or buy one used sea container with climate controll to store all my lipos.

Detox, I like the ammo box idea very much! I have actually looked them up for price on fleabay. Right now, I can not think of a better storage container for my dozen or so lipos. Right now I have them in a lipo sock. Good luck with that right?! Thanks for sharing that with us. Maybe I will get smart and buy one soon!

It worked for me.

This ammo box contained a NiMh explosion. There were only two holes in the box, one for the heavy current cell cord and the other for the LiPo balancer. Each hole was about a half inch in diameter with a grommet sealing it. The grommets were blown out, but the case held. I was auto cycling a pack (charge/discharge). It blew on the fifth charge. This charger did not come with a temperature sensor to stop the carge on an over temperature condition.

What I learned from this:
1) Use an ammo box when charging or cycling.
2) Get a charger with a temperature sensor.
