There are several choices. A Feigao (spell???) 8LX will kick you boat in the butt. Same for a Hacker 8XL or Lehner 1940 / 8. Outrunner's are fun too and inexpensive.

Guess what I was asking was about the "new brand" on the website? Couldn't find it...my son had a Feigao that lasted about three runs before the bearings went...not a very well made motor. Switched him to a Leopard...runs very well.
I'm using a UL-1 in a VS-1 tunnel and it's "ok", just not very efficient so things tend to heat up.
What ever happened to that Scorpion inrunner project? Haven't seen much about it since the beginning of the year. Are they available? 2200kV?

A lot of people replace the bearings on the Feigao. Chinese bearings tend to be of poor quality.
Scorpion, from what I can ascertain from Lucien at Inov8tive Designs seems to have dropped the idea for the time being as they are constantly trying to catch up on the orders for outrunners.
BTW the price for Scorpions has increased by quite a bit due to the increase in price for rare earth materials and copper. You know of course the Chinese at this point are the worlds largest producer of rare earth materials.
The price increase will eventually affect everyone in the industry ( BL motors). I still would not hesitate to purchase a Scorpion for my more serious motor needs.

I think the Chinese control about 95% of the supply of rare earth materials. Gotta love our great US business strategies!
Just ordered another ARC ducted fan motor...never can have too many motors!

Make that 97%!

Don, I'm getting ready to build my JAE 21 (finally) and not sure if I want to use the Zipp hardware or If there is something in the Speed Master or Octura line of struts and rudders? I see on your build you are using what appears to be Octura or some other brand.
The hardware package for the JAE is a bit on the expensive side and I'm trying to keep costs down as I'm going to run this as a sport boat....there is no racing up here in Northern Michigan that I can find, at least not very nearby.
As far a motors are concerned either the UL-1 or a comparable Leopard but not sure which one. Does anybody have any recommendations? What prop for a comparable Leopard motor?
cheers

Zip hardware is fine as well as being very affordable. What I like is this hardware was specifically designed for 'this' design. Makes sense.

You know...my take is try the UL 1 motor, first. ITs a great combo as well as being a blast to drive. Then ... in the event you want more speed, consider an upgrade. Use a GOOD control. The Castle 120 is faster than the Chinese versions. Some clubs require the UL1 control along the same motor - check around before ordering. Best of luck

Can't remember who sells the UL-1 motor. Is it G.P./Tower or Horizon?
I've looked for this motor and ended up being somewhat confused. OSE has a couple motors: Ammo 3650-2030 and a blue one (Aquacraft?) with a little less KV. Nether are labled as UL-1. I would assume the Ammo 3650-2030 to be the correct motor but you know what happens when you assume....

That's what I figured since it was the only one of the two with the KV everyone talks about.
Thanks
