Sport boat-30+mph + 10min Run time?

Hello. First time poster here....
I've been out of electrics for about 12 years and am thinking of making a return. I love electrics....I love scale looking V hulls...I don't race, but I love going fast! What I don't love is the pathetic run times of 2-4 minutes I used to get with my boats. I've been looking at the new "micro" class with speed 480 motors. They seem to be running around 25-30mph and From what I've read they are getting up to 10 min run times. What would you guys (and girls?) recomend? I'm not adverse to larger hulls, I just didn't think they could get that kind of run time and speed.

I have been toying with the idea of one of the Graupner Fiat Uno's with 2 or 3 400's or 480's....anybody done this?

Thanks for your help

Jon

johnnyspeed,Check with FineDesignRC.Chris has had great results with speed and run time in smaller and larger hulls alike.

Hello Jon,

FDM 32" Offshore hull, Turbo Trans, 700bb Neo, x447. That's exactly what your looking for, big scale looking V hull that will run over 10 minutes at around the speeds you mentioned. I've built a couple of those and you won't be disappointed.

Paul.

Hi Jon. Sunday at the Strongsville Recreation Complex on 82 is having radio controlled boat night at 5:00pm, why don't you meet us there tomorrow and we can get you up to speed on electrics.

Steve

Thanks guys. Steve I think I met you last year out at the pond in Aurora. You run the yellow Aeromarine Challenger right? I think you were there with your girlfriend testing both of your boats. I rode over on my motorcycle with my wife and my friend. Ring a bell? I may be able to make it over on Sunday. Keep an eye out for me...I'll be the one with the lost look on his face

Even the 700 8.4 in "direct drive form" and X642 prop gives long runs and very fast in most 29-30" abs hulls like the EV and Super Hawaii.

I was surprised at the speed but more impressed with run time after converting my SH to direct drive with X642...it can still go a X645 and have good run time and even faster speeds

You can get this kind of run time if you are playing and not at racing speeds constantly.

Jeff,
What kind of run time are you getting with the direct drive setup?

Today I ran it again and ran my 2400 cells X642 and the thing seems to run forever I played for maybe 8-10 minutes...the nicest thing is the cells and motor are only slightly warm, which I am not used too.

Remember...racing conditions are different. Playing on the straights is different than pulling 5 or 6 hard corners at full throttle...which is probably where most of the cell goes too.

Either way...the FDM 32 or EV and 700BB with 12-14 cells makes a great set up that is very fast and reliable. Low cost long wearing combo.
