If 1 torque ring is good.......
I have all these left over torque rings. I was wondering if it would: 1) do anything 2) be better for something 3) be worse It would be easy to stack them 2 or 3 thick. Whaddya think? |

More is better, up to a point..... more ferrous mass will control the magnetic force that "leaks" outside of the can and keep it trapped inside, but you will quickly reach a point of diminishing returns. It doesn't require a lot of mass to contain the field of ferrite or even neo magnets in our motors, 1/8" (can plus flux ring)of steel is probably more than adequate. Of course the best way to maximize the flux containment and minimize weight is with a shaped ring like those used on Astroflight motors.

Several Viper motors are sold with upto 6 layers in 3 separate rings to optimize field containment. Proof is in the numbers....80%+ efficiency for brushed motors :-) is attainable...
