A Nutter....

While I finished the Carlsberg, I have an older skeleton for a picklefork sitting in the shop. I bought the skeleton off ebay, and what i thought was light ply was actually doorskin, she was HEAVY!!!, what I did was hog out all the formers, I left only about 3/32nd of an inch and it was VERY birdcage like. I then sheeted the bottom, and used the very light packing styrofoam between all the formers, (except down the middle) I then used non expanding foam in between the styro blocks to secure the foam and fill any crevices, I then skinned the top in 1/16th balsa, (for shape) and shot more foam under the deck, once hardened this thing is RIGID!! I will skin the balsa with 1/64th ply as this is my usual style, I find it very strong.

I cut another "Finley Furrow" and then used 3/32nd ply to cover the open center sides and form the sides of the tunnel, I then used 1/16th ply to form the bottom of the tunnel and added a second layer. VERY strong.

I decided I would go with a 73 style budweiser type boat, probably painted as the coors light, with a silver hull and metallic blue trim. I carved the rear cowl using the bread and butter method, utilizing hard balsa it actually came out very well IMHO, and hopefully will be able to post some pics, the hull is a little over 30" so not sure what i will power her with... stay tuned
